Blyth Spartans AFC

I joined the Blyth Spartans media team in June 2017 after a successful interview to become their official Programme Editor for 2017/18. Apart from this I was also involved in other areas of the media team, contributing as much as possible alongside my second year studies at university.

Matchday Programme

My primary role with Blyth Spartans was to produce the official matchday programme for each home game of the season. This included gathering content weekly from club officials and interviewing players alongside writing my own column each week.

I threw myself into the deep end at the start of the season and produced a bumper 60-page edition for all seven pre season games at Croft Park. This special edition sold out twice and generated thousands of pounds in revenue for the club – the full programme is available to read below.

When I started I was proficient at Adobe InDesign, but throughout the year I managed to know the program like the back of my hand. This allowed me to be more creative with how I presented the content.

Above are a few sample pages from the normal matchday programme throughout the 2017/18 National League North season.

Social Media

When I joined the team I saw that the twitter and other social platforms were very non league, and after seeing what the Football League clubs were doing at the time I went ahead and rebranded the social media so that it would give fans a more modern matchday coverage.

I started with goal GIFs which proved popular with fans as they encouraged more engagement amongst supporters and when doing the live feed on matchdays it would resemble that of Football League standard – something the club were very happy with going forward.

I also created the header image for the social channels which can be seen below.

Even though it wasn’t my job on the team I always tried to contribute with the website articles which would be in the form of match reports or even transfer announcements throughout the season.
